Virat Kohli Latest News

Rohit recently took retirement

This decision of Virat to retire has come after the retirement of Rohit Sharma. India’s selection team is going to meet in a few days to select the team for the five-match test series to be held in England next month.According to a report in Times of India, Kohli has been considering his Test future since the beginning of the year in the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. After scoring a century in the first Test on the tour, Kohli has batted very poorly in the remaining matches, which may also be the reason for a budding retirement.

Kohli Poor Performance against Australia & New zealand

Having made 100 runs in the second innings of the first Perth Test, Kohli scored only 90 runs in seven innings of the remaining four Tests. In the Australia tour, Kohli scored 190 runs in nine innings of five Tests with a mean of 23.75. Kohli’s performance prior to this was not good during New Zealand’s India tour. In three Tests’ six innings against the Kiwis, he scored 93 runs at a strike rate of 15.50.

Will Kohli change his decision?

If Kohli does not change his mind then India will get another big blow after Rohit’s retirement because two important players of India retiring together can cause a lot of damage to India. And also a chapter of Indian cricket will end. Rohit announced his retirement from Test cricket on Wednesday 7th and according to the news, Virat Kohli can also announce his retirement soon.He also took the decision in this format after poor performance on the Kiwis and Australia tours. Rohit and Kohli have already retired before T20 International. In such a situation, if Kohli does not change the decision, then both will be seen only in ODI cricket.

Reason for Rohit's retirement

According to the report, the selectors did not want Rohit to be the captain for the England tour and wanted to sell him as a batsman, which Rohit did not like the decision of the selectors and this could be the reason behind Rohit’s retirement. In the home series against New Zealand, Rohit scored 91 runs in the six innings of the three matches at an average of 15.17, whereas on the Australia tour, the hitman scored 31 runs in the five innings of the three Tests at an average of 6.20.

36 year old Kohli's performance in test

Kohli, 36, has appeared in 123 Tests for India and made 9,230 runs at 46.85. His average decreased in the last five years. In those years, he made 1,990 runs with the support of three hundreds in 37 Tests.Kohli was bowled seven times out of eight during the Australian tour by manipulating the ball away from the off stump. Kohli also explained in an RCB podcast recently that now he may not be able to tour Australia.

No Senior for Guidance

After Rohit and Virat, there will be no senior to guide the team and according to the news, Shubman Gill is the front runner in the race for captaincy for the England tour, apart from this, Jasprit Bumrah is also in the race. If Kohli does not change the decision, then it will be the first time since December 2014 that neither Rohit nor Kohli and the team will be present in the Test team to guide any one of them. Kohli became the Test captain of India in December 2014 and after that Rohit became the captain in February 2022.

Regarding failure on Australia tour

Recently a podcast of Virat Kohli was out in which he talked about the failure of his Australia tour. Talking about mental pressure, he said that once it is the turn of the season, one starts getting disappointed due to the pressure. So you start putting more banter on yourself. Then you start thinking about things like I’ve got two or three days left in this round I need to make an impact. You start telling more stories. I’ve experienced that in Australia.

Honest with myself

Kohli said, ‘Because I scored well in the first Test on the Australia tour. I thought okay, now another big series is going to happen for me. All these things come to mind. Then I say ok ok and accept things. I want to be honest with myself. For me it’s about what I want to do or what my energy level is.

Rahul Dravid helped Kohli

In the RCB podcast, he also shared an interaction with erstwhile India coach Rahul Dravid. Kohli stated that a conversation with Dravid made him clear-headed regarding his career and allowed him to shed mental pressure.”It’s just out of my love for the game,” he stated. And as long as this passion continues, I will keep playing cricket.”. Dravid added that my competitiveness will never make me accept retirement. I’ll think so for perhaps another six months, whatever. You simply have to hope that you understand the right time when to do it.
