Jurassic World Rebirth Review is just what the franchise required – a fresh start. Following on from the underwhelming Fallen Kingdom and the muddled Dominion, fans had lost hope. But all of this is turned around by this new film. With Scarlett Johansson taking center stage, Rebirth is a welcome change, exciting, and actually fun – much like the original Jurassic Park.
The movie opens with a 17-year-old flashback cleverly dodging the convoluted plots of the previous two movies. Today, the majority of the dinosaurs are extinct once again, but some do remain in a distant, imaginary island in the Caribbean named Île Saint Hubert.
This is where the plot gets going: a big pharmaceutical corporation learns that dinosaur blood could be used to develop potent medicine. A mission is thus devised to obtain blood samples from three dinosaurs representing land, sea, and air.
Scarlett Johansson stars as Zora Bennett, tough ex-military commander who’s leading the mission. She’s intelligent, without fear, and completely authoritative.
She’s accompanied by:
There is also a parallel plot with a family boating in the vicinity, who are headlined by Reuben Delgado (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), giving the movie a relatable and emotional touch.
Rebirth reinstates all the things fans adore – the adrenaline-inducing dinosaur chases, tense points, surprise roars, and those “turn around slowly and look scared” moments. The graphics are phenomenal, the jungle sets appear authentic, and the dinosaurs have never looked so real.
But what actually succeeds here is the equilibrium. The movie is neither too serious nor too silly. It knows how to entertain – through smart dialogue, fine acting, and adequate pacing.
One of the surprises in the movie is the endearing chemistry between Jonathan Bailey and Scarlett Johansson. Dr. Loomis and Zora are total opposites – he’s all brains, she’s all action – but as a couple, they’re incredibly charming.
Bailey shines in his turn as the nerdy but affable scientist. One of his exchanges about how stupid dinosaurs lived on for millions of years and man only existed for a relatively short time really makes you sit back and think – and chuckle.
