Ullu App Banned in India: In a major crackdown on digital platforms promoting obscene and adult content, the Government of India has officially banned 25 mobile applications and websites, including popular names like Ullu, ALTT, Big Shots, and Desiflix. This move comes as part of a larger effort to regulate inappropriate online content and ensure a safer digital environment for users across the country.
Why Were These Platforms Banned?
According to a report by Storyboard18, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) took action after it found that these platforms were continuously showcasing objectionable advertisements and adult content, including pornographic material. The ministry flagged 25 specific links, apps, and websites that were in clear violation of the Information Technology Rules, 2021.
These platforms were ordered to be taken down by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) across India, meaning they will no longer be accessible to the general public within the country.

Full List of Banned Apps and Websites
Here are the 25 banned platforms that were found promoting explicit content: Ullu App, ALTT (formerly ALTBalaji), Big Shots App, Desiflix, Boomex, Navarasa Lite, Gulab App, Kangan App, Bull App, Jalva App, Wow Entertainment, Look Entertainment, Hitprime, Feneo, ShowX, Sol Talkies, Adda TV, HotX VIP, Hulchul App, MoodX, NeonX VIP, Fugi, Mojflix, Triflicks
Government’s Message is Clear
The Ministry’s move reflects the government’s intent to clean up the digital OTT space, particularly smaller platforms that have been operating under the radar with little to no regulation. While major OTT players like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+ Hotstar follow content guidelines, many lesser-known platforms have taken advantage of loopholes to distribute adult content in the name of entertainment.
This ban is seen as a warning to content creators and OTT startups to maintain content quality and adhere to national broadcasting and streaming guidelines.
What’s Next?
ISPs across India are expected to block access to the listed platforms within days.

The banned apps may try to rebrand or shift operations to international servers, but such moves could attract legal consequences.
The government may continue monitoring OTT content and impose stricter content classification rules in the future.

Public Reaction & Industry Impact
The decision has sparked a mixed response on social media. While many praised the move for protecting younger audiences from inappropriate content, others raised concerns about creative freedom and censorship in India’s OTT landscape.
For the industry, this signals a wake-up call. As OTT continues to boom in India, regulation is inevitable, and platforms must prepare for a more transparent and compliant future.
