Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC), one of Indian television’s longest-running and most-loved sitcoms, continues to dominate the TRP charts even after 17 glorious years. The show, known for its clean humour and strong ensemble cast, has retained the No.1 spot for four consecutive weeks. In an exclusive interaction with Times of India TV, producer Asit Kumarr Modi shared his insights on the show’s lasting popularity, rumours around Dilip Joshi’s exit, the much-awaited return of Daya Bhabhi, and how TMKOC maintains its signature family-friendly comedy.
TMKOC Tops TRP Charts for the 4th Week in a Row
Asit Kumarr Modi proudly stated that TMKOC’s secret sauce is its relatability. “Our show is not like the usual daily soaps. It’s built on light-hearted everyday moments from a common man’s life,” he said. With an unwavering fan base, the sitcom has found its way into the hearts of millions, from TV screens in 2008 to OTT platforms today.

Even after nearly two decades, viewers continue to cherish the Gokuldham Society and its quirky residents. “Everyone – from our writers to actors – gives their best. That’s what makes TMKOC special,” Modi added.
Viewers Have Grown with the Show
Modi emphasized how the audience has matured alongside the characters. “The Tapu Sena was once little kids, now they’ve grown up. The fans accepted these changes beautifully,” he explained. The show’s core has evolved, but it still maintains the emotional bond that families connect with.
Ensemble Cast Is the Backbone of TMKOC

Modi insists that every character in the show matters. “It’s an ensemble cast where each character holds value,” he noted. From Jethalal to Popatlal, and from Bhide to Abdul, each personality contributes to the show’s vibrant dynamic. Despite changes in actors and shifting storylines, TMKOC’s heart has remained unchanged.
Dilip Joshi’s Exit? Here’s the Truth
With Dilip Joshi, aka Jethalal, missing from a few recent episodes, social media buzzed with rumours about his exit. Modi clarified, “He was away due to personal commitments, not because he left the show. Every time someone misses a few scenes, people start assuming. I prefer focusing on the narrative, not the noise.”
On Daya Bhabhi’s Comeback: “Viewers Deserve It”

Fans have been eagerly awaiting the return of Daya Bhabhi, played by Disha Vakani, who left the show in 2017. Modi acknowledges their demand. “Disha ji gave life to the character. It’s not easy to bring her back without the right conditions, but yes, the audience deserves her return. And when the time is right, we’ll see.”
Dealing with Trolls and Online Criticism
In the digital age, criticism is constant – some constructive, some not. Modi doesn’t let it affect him. “I listen when it’s meaningful. Otherwise, I stay focused on my story. Even big stars get trolled, so it comes with the territory,” he said.
Clean Comedy Is the Core of TMKOC
Unlike many comedy shows or stand-up acts that push boundaries, TMKOC stays in the lane of wholesome humour. “We never target any religion, caste, or community. Our jokes are self-reflective, not insulting,” Modi said.

He added, “We’ve seen how some comedians face backlash for offensive content. We’re cautious. Our scripts are thoughtful, and actors understand the importance of responsible humour.”
A Show for the Entire Family
Modi takes pride in TMKOC being a show that grandparents, parents, and kids can enjoy together. “That’s our identity. That’s why we’ve never really faced any serious controversy. We’re here to spread laughter without hurting anyone.”
TMKOC’s Legacy: Entertaining India Since 2008
From viral memes to nostalgic re-runs, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has become more than just a TV show – it’s a cultural phenomenon. With unwavering dedication to storytelling, audience connection, and clean content, the show has cemented its legacy in Indian television history.
