JEE Advanced 2025: Eligibility Updates, Attempt Limits & Qualifications Explained

The Joint Admission Board (JAB) has implemented significant revisions to the eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2025. These changes encompass the number of permissible attempts, age limits, and academic qualifications. A thorough understanding of these updates is crucial for aspirants aiming for admission to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

Number of Attempts in JEE Advanced 2025

Initially, JAB had increased the permissible attempts for JEE Advanced from two to three consecutive years. However, after further deliberation, this decision was reversed on November 15, 2024, restoring the original limit of two attempts in consecutive years. Consequently, candidates can now attempt JEE Advanced only twice over two successive years.

JEE Advanced 2025

Age Limit Criteria

To be eligible for JEE Advanced 2025, candidates must have been born on or after October 1, 2000. However, there is a five-year relaxation for candidates belonging to SC, ST, and PwD categories, making those born on or after October 1, 1995, eligible

Educational Qualifications

Candidates must have appeared for their Class 12 (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2024 or 2025 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as mandatory subjects. Those who appeared for Class 12 (or equivalent) in 2023 or earlier are not eligible to apply, regardless of the subjects attempted.

Performance in JEE Main 2025

To qualify for JEE Advanced 2025, candidates must rank among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates in the B.E./B.Tech. paper of JEE Main 2025. The distribution across various categories is as follows:
General-EWS: 10%
OBC-NCL: 27%
SC: 15%
ST: 7.5%
Open (Unreserved): 40.5%
Additionally, a 5% horizontal reservation is available for PwD candidates within each category.
