Delhi Election 2025 Live Updates: As of February 5, 2025, Delhi is witnessing a significant electoral contest as voting for the state assembly elections commenced at 7 AM across all 70 constituencies. A total of 699 candidates are vying for seats, with the primary battle between the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. The Indian National Congress also seeks to regain its foothold in the capital’s political landscape.

More than 1.5 crore eligible voters will have the chance to choose their representatives for the 70-member Delhi assembly from a pool of 699 candidates – 603 men, 95 women and a third-gender person – who have campaigned vigorously over the past two weeks. The polling booths will open at 7am and voting will continue till 6pm.

The last two assembly elections were one-sided with AAP winning two huge mandates. BJP could barely manage to mark its presence in the assembly and Congress was almost decimated. In 2015, AAP romped home with 54.6% vote share and a record 67 seats with the remaining three going to BJP. The 2020 assembly elections saw AAP’s vote share and seats drop only marginally to 53.6% and 62, respectively. BJP won the remaining eight seats and Congress failed to open its account yet again.

The AAP, which has governed Delhi for over a decade, has built its reputation on welfare policies and an anti-corruption stance. However, recent graft allegations against Kejriwal and other party leaders have posed significant challenges. Despite these hurdles, the party continues to highlight its achievements in education, healthcare, and public services.

Delhi Election 2025 BJP aims to capitalize on these controversies, emphasizing its national policies and recent budget decisions, such as income tax reductions, to appeal to the middle-class electorate. The party has intensified its campaign efforts, with Modi and other senior leaders holding multiple rallies and roadshows across the city.

The Congress party, which once held power in Delhi for 15 years, is striving to make a comeback after not securing any seats in the last two assembly elections. The party has released multiple lists of candidates and is focusing on issues like pollution, public transport, and women’s safety to resonate with voters.

Polling stations are scheduled to remain open until 6 PM today, with over 15 million eligible voters expected to cast their ballots. The Election Commission has implemented stringent security measures to ensure a smooth voting process. The counting of votes is slated for February 8, and the results will determine whether AAP secures a third consecutive term or if BJP or Congress can alter the political dynamics of the national capital.
