Champions Trophy Digest: Rachin Ravindra’s Century Guides New Zealand to Semi-Finals

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has reached a pivotal stage, with India and New Zealand securing their spots in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Australia and South Africa are poised for a decisive clash that will determine their advancement.

New Zealand's Dominance and Rachin Ravindra's Brilliance

New Zealand’s journey to the semi-finals has been marked by outstanding performances, particularly from all-rounder Rachin Ravindra. In their recent five-wicket victory over Bangladesh, Ravindra’s stellar century (112 runs) was instrumental in chasing down a target of 237. His partnership with Tom Latham, who contributed 55 runs, solidified New Zealand’s position. Captain Mitchell Santner commended Ravindra’s adaptability and highlighted the significance of middle-overs wickets, especially praising Michael Bracewell’s impressive 4-26 bowling figures.

Rachin Ravindra
Ravindra’s form has been a focal point for New Zealand. Despite a head injury during a tri-series match in Lahore prior to the tournament, he showcased resilience and readiness, leading the training sessions ahead of their opener against Pakistan.

India's Steady Ascent

India’s consistent performances have ensured their progression to the semi-finals. They began their campaign with a six-wicket win over Bangladesh in Dubai, followed by another six-wicket victory against arch-rivals Pakistan. These triumphs have solidified their position at the top of Group A. Their upcoming match against New Zealand on March 2 in Dubai will determine the group leader.

Australia and South Africa's Crucial Encounter

In Group B, Australia and South Africa are set for a critical match on February 25 in Rawalpindi. Australia’s batting lineup has been formidable, evidenced by a five-wicket win over England, where Josh Inglis delivered an unbeaten 120-run performance. Despite this success, the team remains focused on the upcoming challenge against South Africa.

Rachin Ravindra
South Africa, buoyed by a commanding 107-run victory over Afghanistan, faces concerns over the fitness of key batsman Heinrich Klaasen, who is striving to recover from a c**o injury. Captain Temba Bavuma acknowledged Australia’s injury-weakened bowling attack but emphasized the need for vigilance. He also noted the strategic importance of the toss, considering the dew factor in Rawalpindi that could influence bowling conditions.

Tournament Overview

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025, returning after an eight-year hiatus, features eight top ODI teams divided into two groups. Group A includes Pakistan, India, New Zealand, and Bangladesh, while Group B comprises South Africa, Australia, Afghanistan, and England. The tournament is co-hosted by Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates, with India’s matches held in Dubai due to security considerations.
